Throw Back: Sony Achiba — Nipa Boniayefour

This is a very special request and we are happy we are able to grant this! This is a song from an artist known as Sony Achiba a.k.a. The Indian Man! This song is from his album “Indian Ocean 1 & 2” released around 2007 and this song is titled “Nipa Boniayefour” which literally means “Ungrateful Person”. When Hip Life was the main Genre back in the days, lots of artists made “Sub Genres” from it. Some even called their sub-genre Hip-Cont but the India Man called his Hip-Dia which is a combination of Hip Life and India.

Sony Achiba surprisingly became almost everyone’s favourite when he introduced his “New Style”. His videos were all fun to watch as he displayed the Indian dance and wore Indian traditional wears. When you watch his videos, what you see is a Hindi Movie! I wonder where he is now and what he has been up to all these years. We did enjoy his songs and the art attached to it. Maybe he is in India enjoying himself… LOL Download below and share with someone who misses this song as well!!

Throw Back: Kwaw Kese — Ma Kwan (Ft. Edem) Prod by Hammer

Today’s throw back will refresh your memory and also remind you of the peculiar trend of music Ghanaians had some years ago. This song is called “Ma Kwan” by Kwaw Kese featuring Edem and was produced by Hammer of the Last 2. Some of us did know nothing can be more than this stage of Hip-Life after the unbelievable transformation Hip-Life had when Hammer introduced his rhythms and top notched production skills. After the “Hammer” era, the heat kept dropping and now we dont have an original Ghanaian Hip-Hop which we can boldly call ours.

This is the Era when Hammer influenced a lot of producers in the country and across Africa. His sounds were exclusive (His sounds are still exclusive) and you feel the song inside you! Rappers be like “Chale Give Me The Hammer Kind Of Beat“… Kwaw Kese and Edem did kill this beat as they always do on any instrumental produced by Hammer. Ok let me confess… I was addicted to this song!!! My close friends know this! If you loved this song, then we are probably on the same line… Download and share. “Abi You Dey Blaze… Koti Go Dey Chase

Blackstone — Befi Mano (Throw Back Thursday)

Today’s throwback is a request from a very cherished Loud Sound Ghana family member and its a song from a group back in the days known as Blackstone. Blackstone made their major breakthrough with “Befi Mano” and this song without any doubt was trending across the country and neighbouring countries too. The group BLACKSTONE was made of two guys namely Kawastone (Mohammed Abdul-Rashid Kawawa) and Flexx (Kamal Aryee Mudasiru). This was their maiden single which was released around 2000 (15 Years ago).

Kawastone who was a student at Tamale Secondary School (TAMASCO) joined up with his friend Flexx in the same school to become a group or duo. Its been so many years and we have not heard anything from them yet. I cant confirm if both decided to stop music or the group dissolved and that automatically ended it all. Anyways, good music still lasts for ages. After 15 years, it still sound awesome! Download below and share…

By a very special request, our throw back song is from the very old VIP, made up of Promzy (Now Promzy Afrika), Prodigal, Lazy (Now Zeal) and Friction! All along, I have been getting the title of this song wrong! We kept saying “Show Me Wossop” which was really not the title. I cant believe I have been singing this wrong for over a decade!! LOL This song is called “Kuzo Muyi Wassa” which I dont know what it means; but its in the Hausa language.

What is a party when this song is not on rotation? A party without this song is definitely a church party. I remember there was a dance that came with it!! VIP ruled the music scene those days with their energy, the drive, the uniqueness and lots more. When VIP is on stage, its always fireworks!! Its a street thing!!! Ladies and gentlemen, make your Thursday a memorable one!!! Download song below and share this throwback.

Our throwback song usually comes on Thursdays; but by a special request from a very loyal fan, we bring you a song from Da Hammer’s maiden compilation album dubbed “Sounds Of Our Time” and this song happens to be the 8th track on that compilation featuring Okra and Motia titled “The Workshop”.

Even though this song is classified as Hip-Life, the Hip-Hop elements dominated the song showing more of lyrics than the rhythm of the heavy loaded beat produced by Da Hammer. Mantse a.k.a. The Signature did say at the beginning of the song that, this is one of Hammer’s all time favourite and I guess we all know why… Lyrical dexterity at its highest peak! Enjoy and share!

Today’s throw back music comes from one of Ghana’s best lyricist back in the days. None other by Mr. Originaaaal; Lord Kenya!!! Even though the former rapper has taken off his music gears and responding to God’s call to become a pastor, some of his songs remains to be a huge inspiration to many of us. This song is called “Sika Mpo Nfa Neho” and it features Nana Fynn.

In an interview with Nana Fynn sometime ago, he did say this collaboration was not planned and it just happened. To be honest this is one of the best from Lord Kenya and one of the best hiplife song ever released. Its song I wish could become popular again and choking the airwaves…

This song always gets me emotional when I listen to it. Its a song that gives the average person hope and inspiration to work hard to achieve their goals the right way. Unlike the songs we hear now that tells you getting money and “blowing” it is more important. I understand why older people are no more into our “modern” songs… The message in this song is still valid and clear. Download and share…

Terry Bon Chaka — Zoozey (Ft. KK Fosu) #ThrowBack

A moment of silence to a great talent…. R.I.P. Terry Bonchaka! Our throw back today goes out to an extraordinary and talented Afro-Ragga artist, who goes by the name Terry Bonchaka. Today’s throwback is titled “Zoozey” and it features legendary highlife artist; KK Fosu.

The “Zoozey” album was officially released after Terry Bonchaka died. The Zoozey album was released around December 2003 or early 2004 (Not too sure about the year). Terry Bonchaka’s fame shot up even higher after he died; with lots of young guys trying to dress and look like him.  “Zoozey” was the title track for the 10 track album which was released under the “The Bonchaka Project 2004” initiated by PSI Records, a subsidiary of Peter Smith International Investment Ltd along side many unreleased songs from Terry Bonchaka.

What Terry did back in the days was very rare. He was unique, different, creative and most of all, his songs had 100% African lyrics. He spoke more about African values, Love and Life from the Ghanaian perception, and almost everything that promotes our culture. We lost a great personality and I am not sure if anyone can replace him. Download and take yourself back into the days!

Once again, we are honouring a very special request from a loyal fan! Today’s throw back is a song by the group Praye (Not Existing Any More) called JACKET (remix) featuring 4×4, Wutah, Tinny, Samini and Blackson and was produced by the man of that era; JQ. I know you can all agree with me that, this is one of the biggest collaboration and also one of the most loved remixes of all time. The original song did not make so much impact like the remix. As a matter of fact, I can’t remember how the original even sounded like.

PRAYE released this song under “Broomx Entertainment” and that was their “Cocoa” season. After winning a competition organized by Nescafe dubbed “Nescafe Revelation” Azorpete, Big J and Kente rose to fame at a very high speed. Other hit songs they had were Shordy, Angelina, Wodin and many others that were making endless rotations on our TVs and Radios. It’s unfortunate things had to fall apart and see these talented young men chasing different dreams now. The group PRAYE does not exist any more but songs they made will forever be the same. Enjoy and share

Reggie Rockstone has been relevant in the game for ages and his new affiliation with VIP now VVIP proves to the world his talent is unlimited and he has been blessed with what he does. Today’s throwback is to celebrate Reggie Rockstone and HipLife as usual! Enjoy!

Look what I Found!!! This talented young man who goes by the name Ebo and also the younger brother of entertainment Icon; Kwabena Anokyi Adisi a.k.a. Bola Ray, climbed the fame ladder so fast with this single titled “Once, Twice” featuring Dre featured on Appietus’ compilation somewhere around 2006. (not sure of the year) We all fell in love with this song and it became one of the most requested songs around that time.

Ebo how ever had some doubts about his career even though Ghanaians accepted him fully. He was sceptical about the gradual change coming into the music scene; and that was everyone going fully local in regards to language. He thought his English content wont be able to make a good impact… Even though he said he is inspired by artists like Rocky Dawuni and few others, he had the dream of flying out of the country before doing more music. I dont know where he is now and I dont know what he is up. BUT I still got this awesome song to share with with you! Its a throw back challeeeee!!!

Dr Cryme — Kill Me Shy (Audio + Video) Throwback Music

Once upon a time, the whole Ghana was singing to this awesome piece! Dr Cryme released this song some few years ago and it got everyone singing to it! “Kill Me Shy” is a direct translation from the Akan language which is supposed to have something to do with too much love for someone. I wont make sense if I try to explain this into details… LOL

I can say this song was Dr. Cryme’s most popular song. He called his style Twi Pop which I believe is another branch of Hiplife but got more singing and melodious rap involved. I am not sure there was a single soul who disliked this song. Fellas sang this song for the one they really love!

If there is or was someone who did not like this song, then that person might have a personal problem with Dr Cryme. These are some of the beautiful songs we had some few years back. This was the era when we had Our HipLife Manners! Enjoy this and relax with it.

Obour – The Game (Ft. Richie & Okyeame Kwame) #OldSkool

I guess HipLife had some fixing to do few years ago, but was ignored and now its almost invisible… I was listening to this song which I believe is from Obour’s “Fontomfrom” album, titled “The Game” featuring Okyeame Kwame and Richie.

This song addressed very vital issues in the HipLife scene and I think if more attention was paid to these issues, HipLife may have a very strong stand than it has now. I was quite young when this song was released; so I did not pay more attention to the lyrics and what it meant.

But as time went on and I got to understand how HipLife was not supported by most artists and other big names in the industry, I got more insight about the inside issue more than a song that we simply danced to at parties and other fun events. Songs like this needs a calm environment and deep thinking. They saw it happening but were they able to save HipLife? Lets go back into time challe…

Its time to take you back to another powerful hiplife throwback!! This music is from Obrafour called “Obibini” featuring Mensa of FOKN Bois fame. The song is from Obrafour’s “Asem Sebe” album released over a decade ago. When Hiplife gets very real, people tend to call it HipHop and this is one of those songs.

Obrafour and Mensa spoke about mental slavery, unity and preserving our rich culture as Africans. I don’t remember the actual year this album was released but I am very sure it was between 2000 and 2001 because I bought the cassette when I was going back to school after vacation at that time. It was worth taking part of my pocket money to buy the album.  I still love this song! Enjoy!

Today’s throwback is one of my favourite gospel songs by Obrafour! He calls this this one “Mensesa Da” (I never change). I dont know what it is with this song, but it does make you get emotional and got a way of bringing memories back. This song is from Obrafour’s “TOFA” album which I think was his 4th Album.

Obrafour talked about how situations may change but he will never change no matter how life may treat him; rich or poor… Songs like this got no expiration date and they will always sound good and new no matter what! Listen to a masterpiece done by a living legend!

First of all, we must apologize for not being consistent with our ThrowBack Thursday posts. We have been working on a schedule of songs to post every Thursday starting probably from Next month. This is because we want to make sure we are not violating copyright laws by giving some of the songs out for free download.

Those that can be downloaded for free are the ones we are currently putting together. Meanwhile we decided to post one song from KK Fosu which was actually a request made on Twitter. This is called ‘Number One’ featuring D-Flex. This song was a big hit and one of the best songs coming from KK Fosu a.k.a. the D Styler!

This song is from KK Fosu’s album titled “6  O’Clock”. The music video still look modern to me and feels like it was shot just few weeks or months ago. All I’m trying to say is; KK Fosu was ahead of time and his songs can still be relevant if a little push is given to them. For now, Enjoy this old skool video and wait for more throwbacks coming soon!

Praye – Wodin (Throwback Music)

This is a classic I keep falling in love with anytime I chance on it. ‘Wodin’ which means ‘Your Name’ was composed by all three artistes and was on the “Roll Koll” album released 2008.

The “Roll Koll” album had lots of great songs and those include “Angelina“, “Wonkoa“, “Zoom Lion” and other powerful songs. Today, we will be going back to this classic which you will agree with me is a creative and emotional piece. This song touches your soul and activates your love spots. I will make sure my grandchildren listen to this one day…

A beautiful song done on a reggae beat blessed with comforting and lovely lyrics. Anytime I listen to a song by Praye (All the 3) I get emotional because, I know these guys always blew our minds with something fresh and diverse. They had their own style and contents Ghana always wanted to hear. I hope whatever went wrong is fixed in the near future and they can get back online. I love and miss this song and I believe you do too. Please share after listening.

#TBT: Czar “Mercy Loko” Feat Richie Rich & Tinny

Believe it or not, this was a hit song back in the days when a rapper who goes by the name Czar brought something extraordinary into the music scene! This song is called “Mercy Loko” and featured sensational singer Richie Rich and the Bard man himself; Sexy Tinny!! Indeed, Ghana music has gone through a lot of transformations and a lot of stars come and go as the transformation continues… Czar said his style was not Hiplife, Highlife, Hiphop or none of those genres we had… He called his style “Hip-Cont” (Thats what im talking about!)

This guy took the scene by storm and all of a sudden became people’s choice and almost everyone’s favorite! I think Richie Rich made his first appearance with this music and as for Tinny, he was the barddest artiste you can have on your song and it becomes a tripple hit! Right from the 2000’s Tinny has been the King of GA rap and I think he is still the regular champion. I will tell you more about Tinny in our Artiste of the Month publication…

Let me take you back into the days in a bit and listen to the sick lyrics from the man Czar! Hip-Cont it is people! I present to you “Mercy Loko” by Czar featuring Richie Rich and Tinny… Download mp3 below and enjoy!

#TBT : Keteke “Alele” (Throw Back Thursday)

Keteke has been one of the promising music groups Ghana had but somehow, they just varnished just like many of our hiplife forefathers… This one is called “Alele” which means Ashawo or prostitute… Hiplife back in the days was mainly about preaching good ethics and good social values. If you listened to Obrafour’s “Pae Mu Ka” Album; which was also one of the early albums which transformed hiplife, got most of these kinds on the album… As many rappers sprang up after the “Pae Mu Ka” album was released, they all kept to that tradition, and that made Hiplife or “Kasahare” something the young and old enjoyed so much.

Now back to Keteke… Their most popular song was “Chio Chioo” which made a lot of noise those times and I can say that song still sounds great today! After a while, we did not hear anything from these rappers again. Keteke was made up of Train Driver, Station Master and Locomotive Engineer. Their costumes looked pretty much like they actually worked in the train. If you did not know, how you dress or appear on stage back those days, spoke a lot about the kind of music you do…

These guys come on stage with their “Overalls”, Helmets and Combats… Just like when Obrafour comes on stage, he had his own appearance. Likewise Joe Frazier, Ashanti Monkfunk, Okofuor Kwadee, V.I.P,  and many of them! HipLife was about story telling and communicating directly with the people! No doubt we loved it and enjoyed every bit of the old skool Hiplife. Download Alele by Keteke below and keep it!

This is “Masom” by Hiplife legend Tic Tac and it features Mr. All 4 Real a.k.a. Ofori Amponsah who is now a minister of God, Jo Hart and Vivian. This was the album title of Tic Tac’s album released around 2001. It was a 12 track album including instrumentals and an Acapella of the track “Bronx”… I remember I bought this album when it was out and MASOM happened to be one of my favorites on the whole album.

I cant confirm who produced it but the instrumentals got something unique about it; which is the usual Highlife flavor mixed with modern day instruments. This album was successful as well as all the others released by Tic Tac right from the Hit Single “Phelomena” featuring Obrafour, Kwani Kwani, Fefe Ne Fe featuring Tony Tetuila and a whole lot of them. As I keep saying, Tic Tac has played a major role in the history of Hiplife and he still holds on to that legacy. He is no news to good music lovers and for that reason, I will just take you back in time with this classic! Download mp3 below and enjoy!

Its another classic throwback music from an Afro Pop band called Eboni, and “Forgive and Forget” was part of their 11 track album titled “Money and Fame”… The album was designed to feature some top African artistes to do their version and to share the songs across the world. Kwaisey Pee and Samini (Batman back then) were featured on the “Forgive and Forget” which they re- titled “Odo Fakye Me“… The same song also featured Nigerian music star; 2Face Idibia and had Samini on his version as well.

The Eboni Band was made up of keyboardist and producer; Eric Antonio, fine singer Ashitey de Love and songwriter and concept creator; Talal Fattal (CEO of Metro TV) “Forgive and Forget” was the opening song which was re-done by Kwaisey Pee in an Akan version with a classic fuse of Samini’s ragga/dancehall style. The “Money and Fame” album was released somewhere late 2004 and it was all over the place! Now I’m bringing back this classic for you to enjoy once more! Nobody does the throwback better than we do challe! Download mp3 below and don’t forget to share!!
